Furniture designer maker Andrew Dominic champions traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary yet practical edge.
Andrew moved to Cape Town from his native England in 2009 to create a high-end furniture brand specialising in private commissions. He has since a built a reputation for having an uncompromising dedication to quality, detail and authentic design, and a growing client list that includes some of South Africa’s leading interior design companies and entrepreneurs.
In 2014, the Andrew Dominic product portfolio was extended beyond private commissions to include a Signature Range. The collection of limited quantity pieces best represents the brand’s aesthetic and distinctive approach to furniture making.
Certain pieces I’ve made over the years have evolved into a signature range through repeat commissions and refining of the design. Last year we felt these pieces were ready to be curated into a limited-quantity range
– Andrew, VISI Magazine January 2015
Having trained at David Savage in North Devon, one of UK’s most respected furniture making schools, and worked with prestigious clients including Heals of London, Andrew now works closely with a small team of craftsmen, which he trains in his classical technique, approaching furniture design as that of an artist, with the process in mind and exploring the boundaries of timber.
The workshop is currently being extended to include a mezzanine floor for a glass fronted office and showroom for the Signature Range, aimed at highlighting the aesthetic polarity between a buzzing workshop and the beautiful product it creates, as well as allowing clients a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the furniture-making journey.
A homeware range is also in development, that brings Andrew’s eponymous stamp of quality and authenticity to everyday objects. A selection of products are available at Stable in Cape Town.
